Ransomware Be Aware!
Ransomware is a type of malware which restricts access to the computer system that it infects, and demands a ransom paid to the creator(s) of the malware in order for the restriction to be removed.
Some forms of ransomware encrypt files on the system’s hard drive, while some may simply lock the system and display messages intended to coax the user into paying.
So what do you do when your computer is attacked? The easy answer is nothing. Turn it off, and call SCIP. The longer you leave your computer running, whilst trying to fix it, the more data you are likely to loose. If the viruses hasn’t been running for long, we may be able to fix it.
Ransomware is a sophisticated virus created by extremely competent and tech-savvy culprits. To disable it requires the help of equally knowledgeable professionals. The biggest challenge to recovering the infected data has been the process of breaking the code of how the data is scrambled so it can be deciphered.
Also ensure you take regular backups, photos on your home computer can be irreplaceable!
